Dirt is flying these days at the Mill District site—an exhilarating development that officially has kicked off construction on the project.
As of this writing, we’re about halfway through Phase 1: Demolition. With the help of excavators and backhoes, we’re tearing down iron trellises, big sheets of metal, and entire buildings that formed portions of the former Nu Forest Products site. Last week we started tearing down the old Garden Inn that sits in the middle of the site looking out on Healdsburg Avenue (picture below).
Ultimately, we will demolish the majority of buildings but leave a few that we’ll use to showcase the history of the site. In these structures, we’ll display old fans and other artifacts from the site’s former life as a lumber mill. Visitors can book appointments to inspect some of these materials up-close, we’ll add a spot where you can set up appointments to learn more about the project in general.
Finally, on the northern edge of the Mill District site, we recently installed a new building-sized banner showcasing an aerial rendering of what Mill District may look like when it’s complete. We’re excited to start to get the word out and bring people to Healdsburg to experience our new home. Stay tuned for more details.
