The latest phase of construction on the three buildings that comprise Canopy: Framing exteriors and interiors alike.

For the building exteriors, this means waterproofing, windows, and sliding doors. For the interiors, it means drywall and eventually flooring, cabinetry, and a host of other exquisite (and detailed) finishing work.

According to Doug Harrington, director of design and construction, this is a major milestone that—like the rest of the work on site—started with the southernmost building and will gradually progress north.

“It’s always good news when we get to the framing part of a project, as it means we really start to pick up momentum toward the finish line,” he said. Doug noted that there are now about 90 different construction workers on site each day, up considerably from the 30 workers who have been on site daily for most of the year.

As Doug explained, framing work starts on the exterior and goes from the bottom of the 4-story buildings to the top. Once crews are finished framing the exteriors, they then start framing interiors, working from the top of the buildings back down to the bottom.

All told, initial framing work on Building C (the southernmost building) is expected to be done by the end of September, with crews scheduled to move in and lay flooring after that. Doug said the building should be ready for finishing work in the fall and ready for occupancy by Spring 2024. He added that Building B and Building A will be close behind.

“Before we can have anybody move into the buildings, we have to complete the street, wrap up landscaping, and finish the park,” Doug said. “It’s not just the buildings here; it’s the neighborhood.”
