WHAT'S HAPPENING

Life Around Town

Some say December and January represent the “off-season” here in Healdsburg. We beg to differ. Though vineyards — and, for the most part, wineries — are dormant, town is very much alive with community events, musical performances, and much more. Here are some of the goings-on we’ll be watching over the next few weeks.

*December means Dickens at Madrona Manor. Every year the Michelin-starred restaurant hosts a month of five-course, Charles Dickens-themed dinners that include servers in 19th Century costumes and roving singers. This year Executive Chef Jesse Mallgren is cooking up pumpkin and truffle risotto and beef Wellington, among other dishes. These special meals run now through December 25.

*It’s never too late for holiday flair, and the folks at the family owned Dragonfly Floral are hosting their annual Family Wreath-Making Day from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. this Saturday, December 21. Participants receive all the necessary items to make wreaths from wire and flowers to pinecones, ribbons, and more. Popcorn and hot apple cider are included. If you’re lucky, you might even spot one of the resident ducks or cats.

*Looking forward to January 24-26, the City of Healdsburg has put together a weekend of activities designed to celebrate the local artists and artisans that make the town unique. Dubbed Tastemaker Weekend, the multiday extravaganza includes coffee-roasting with a team from Wolf Coffee, pastry-making with chefs from Costeaux French Bakery, and wine-blending with Jennifer Higgins, winemaker at Lambert Bridge. Most weekend packages include lodging.
