LIFE – AND PHILANTHROPY – GOES ON
As the Coronavirus pandemic continues, Healdsburg is doing its best to adapt to the way we all have to live for the foreseeable future. Exhibit A: Last month the City Council changed city ordinances to shut down Plaza Street just north of the Plaza and allow for restaurants and bars to utilize a temporary outdoor sitting area. (For more on this, see this month’s Spotlight.) Elsewhere around town, several other local organizations are pushing ahead with virtual fundraisers and events. Here a few upcoming shindigs that have our attention.
One of the most beloved annual traditions in Sonoma County is the Sonoma County Wine Auction, during which local winemakers raise money for community grants. This year’s event will take place virtually September 17-20, and it will comprise 40 lots up for bid. Lots include a private concert with Lady Antebellum and several exquisite getaways all over the world. Pictured here are this year’s event co-chairs Jake Bilbro of Limerick Lane, Clay Mauritson of Mauritson Wines, and Mark McWilliams of Arista — three pillars of our community.
With remote learning part of our reality these days, education technology is more important than ever before. Invest in the future by supporting the Career Technical Education Foundation at its annual fundraising event on September 22. The virtual event, dubbed “Spark the Future!” will comprise a traditional auction, as well as a golden ticket raffle and an exciting “Heads or Tails” game. All proceeds support the enhancement of career technical education programs across Sonoma County.
The Alexander Valley Film Society (AVFS) will roll out a new format for its sixth-annual Alexander Valley Film Festival scheduled for September 23 – 27: The entire festival will be virtual and will screen a few dozen films from all over the world. Between now and then, AVFS will continue its regular online programming, which has included screenings and interviews, as well as regular drive-in movies in Healdsburg and Cloverdale.
